The model number that appears on the bottom of the hard drive is used to register the device with regulatory agencies (UL, FCC, etc) and identifies a specific mechanical and electrical design.

I am a Mac owner and I was deploying to Afghanistan, I copied all of my music and photos from my Mac to the Toshiba Hard Drive. The computer that I used in country was a Dell PC laptop. I did not have any issues going from one computer to the other. It is a great, good looking durable little hard drive. I would by another one if I needed it, and the price was great! -- Awesome little External Hard Drive
